Rally-Obedience in Barrie

Yesterday we had Rally-O trials in Barrie and it went ok. Major DQ'd 1st trial, he got just really distracted by barking dogs by the ring and then had sooo hard time getting back into business with me. I got so distracted by him acting up that I forgot some things in our routine and DQ! Well deserved even.
2nd trial for Major was much better, he was back to his normal self and after little stumbling in the figure 8 with VERY good smelling food bowls in the start, we did pretty ok run and he qualified, yey!
Cassi was so over excited that she hardly could stay in her skin. Silly I was commanding her like Major "Heel, good job, lets go..." and woosh she was 1m from me like "whoopee, lets go! Where???!"  Now here is a dog that needs the "spartan" kind of commanding even in Rally-O that is supposed to be fun and relaxed both for the owner and the dog, meaning "Heel!" and next command following. She did however get qualified in both trials, not with runs that I would be very proud of but qualified nevertheless... And of course I am proud of her, she performed very well, being FIRST time EVER in obedience trial, performing under distraction and in a new place never the less. She was not at all distracted by the public or the new place, and did everything I asked her to. I think our performance could have looked actually pretty good if I had not messed up.

Now we are waiting for the PURINA in March, Major is still hunting for the last point and also our hope is to finish his CD. Cassi is in for a Rally Novice so maybe a title for her then too if all works out well!

Markham show

We headed today to Markham show with Major. Only 3 BSD incl. Major was entered. One open female and a specialty male, this happened to be Mason and his sister, so it was good to see some friendly faces we know! Mason was BOB and his sister BOW. Even Major didn't get any points today I was really happy how he showed and behaved. He is such a lovely dog (me biased??!!) and when he is going to get his big boy hair and muscles, watch out! : ) He is on a good start there though, I can clearly see he has matured already in past few months. For one he has started getting a good coat and he isn't like the teenage shrimp anymore bones sticking out. I changed his food to a bit stronger one to get some fat on the bones, and I think it has worked! Tomorrow we'll go again and see what comes, at least we are in a good company, and more excitingly there is going to be 6 BSD's! So a pretty good turn up.

After this weekends shows, we will have a Rally-O trial coming up. Major will be in Advanced A and Cassi Novice A.
I am very excited to take Cassi into a real trial finally! It will be interesting for one to see how she will behave in a place we have not trained before with distractions. She did very well in our obedience training this week and I'm happy to see her progress. We did bunch of heeling, recalls and finishes. Just very easy stuff, but my goal was to have good eye contact and perfect placement in all we did.
Both of them are becoming such a pleasurable dogs to work with, which I like sooo much. They are very eager to please and tolerate repeats very well. They don't get tired very fast so I can do each 30min training easy. Cassi has definitely matured in a way she want's to do things together rather than being more interested to go and explore what happens in the neighbors yard.
Major started retrieving training and we are in the spot now when he will hold the dumbbell for few sec. sitting in front of me. I'll try getting him ready for CDX for the summer. It would be so great to have both of them entered into the specialty weeked obedience!

Now thumbs up for tomorrow, Major only needs one point to finish his CAN Ch.!!

Mr. Prancer out in the snow

Snowy days

We got now lots of it! SNOW!! It's everywhere...and feels like it's good time to do some plans for our future.

Major is still not in his best coat yet but I still entered him into few shows. Our hope is to get that one last point needed for him to finish his champion title. Also he is now entered to 2 obedience trials in March, when hopefully he'll finish his CD title and we can start training for his CDX. If I only get motivated enough in the training part I would say our goal is UD and Obedience champion title next year. But then with kids and rest of the life you never know...
I'll be ready with Cassi to enter in Novice when Major is done his CD. She is very fast learning and good performing what she knows, only thing is that her concentration is not as good as Major's and she can get easier distracted. I'll be taking her to as many correction matches as I can before we start trialling, which will be most  likely in the summer or late spring. Major will probably not be ready for CDX by then yet but I will try work on him. It would be nice to be able to trial with both in the same trials, save some gas money...

Here is Major sitting pretty in Jan 2011

Major again... sorry Cassi, no pics of you this time!
